DISTRICT PROFILE - WAIKATO
The Waikato District has 14 Craft Lodges covering the area from TeKauwhata in the north to Taumaranui in the south. These Lodges are located in Huntly, Ngaruawahia, Hamilton (5), Morrinsville (2), Cambridge (2), TeAwamutu, TeKuiti and Taumaranui.
There are approximately 420 Freemasons in the Waikato who meet in 9 Lodge Buildings. While there have been efforts to consolidate and improve facilities, it is acknowledged that our District is spread out over an area approximately 250km X 100km and we have enjoyed loyal support from our Country members. Many of our City based members are retired farmers.
Our social events are well supported and we have an active Almoner’s Association. The National Fieldays event at Mystery Creek is providing an opportunity for the Waikato to raise the public awareness of Freemasonry for the whole of NZ.
The Waikato is District enjoying strong economic and population growth. Improvements to roading networks are bringing travelling times down and the District is well placed to take advantage of growth opportunities.
